When called up for reserve duty, Zechariah had already earned his first and second degrees at Hebrew University's Faculty of Agriculture and he had almost completed his doctorate at Tel Aviv University's Faculty of Plant Science and Food Security. Based upon his groundbreaking work using advanced computational methods to genetically engineer crops to withstand climate change and articles he co-authored in various scientific journals during his lifetime, he was awarded his PhD posthumously by TAU in June.
We are working with TAU and in particular with Zechariah's doctoral advisor Dr. Nir Sadeh to set up a Memorial Fund that will be used to fund academic prizes for graduate students studying at the TAU Faculty of Plant Science and Food Security and conferences at which the results of the research of the prize recipients will be presented.

We believe this charity is an appropriate way to honor his memory because of Zechariah's passion for social justice and his desire for a more just society in Israel, in addition to the fact that the Haber family lived in Beit Shemesh after making aliya in 1999. Furthermore, it was co-founded by a good friend of the family, and a senior professional role in the organisation is played by Zechariah’s first cousin, an outstanding social worker, and the results achieved by Project Shoham are very impressive.
